Disney Parks Unveil Major Expansions and New Attractions for 2026 and Beyond
Disney’s theme park empire is experiencing unprecedented growth as 2026 approaches, with massive construction projects underway across both coasts. From beloved children’s characters making their debut to entirely new themed lands, Disney is investing heavily in expanding its magical offerings for guests worldwide.
Popular Australian Series Makes Theme Park Debut
The internationally acclaimed children’s show featuring a family of Australian cattle dogs will make its Disneyland premiere on March 22, 2026. The immersive experience, titled “Bluey’s Best Day Ever,” will transform the Fantasyland Theatre into an interactive playground inspired by the show’s classroom and outdoor settings.
Visitors can expect to encounter the beloved characters Bluey and Bingo multiple times daily, alongside live performers and musicians who will recreate popular games and songs from the series. The experience will feature familiar elements like gnome villages, fairy gardens, and interactive games including Keepy Uppy and appearances by fan-favorite characters Chattermax and Unicorse.
The Australian animated series has achieved global success, with a feature film planned for 2027. Disney will complement the new attraction with themed dining options at Troubadour Tavern.
California Adventure Marks Quarter-Century Milestone
Disney’s second Anaheim theme park is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, having first opened its gates on February 8, 2001. The celebration includes several special offerings: the popular Soarin’ attraction will temporarily return to its original “Soarin’ Over California” format through July 1, while Mickey and Minnie Mouse will sport special anniversary costumes featuring sun motifs on Buena Vista Street.
Guests can also enjoy limited-time anniversary-themed food, beverages, and merchandise throughout the celebration period.
Coast-to-Coast Flying Experience Gets American Makeover
Both Disney’s California Adventure and Walt Disney World’s Epcot will debut “Soarin’ Across America” on July 2, 2026. This patriotic reimagining of the popular flying simulator will showcase more than a dozen American cityscapes and natural landmarks, complete with coordinated scents and sounds.
The attraction features narration by Patrick Warburton, who voiced the original Soarin’ experience, promising guests will “sail across spacious skies” and witness “amber waves of grain” and “purple mountain majesties.” This update celebrates America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Disneyland’s Platinum Anniversary Continues
The original Disney theme park extends its 70th anniversary celebration through August 9, 2026. The festivities, which began in May 2025, feature the return of popular shows including the Paint the Night parade, Celebrate Happy Cavalcade, and the Wondrous Journeys fireworks spectacular.
Anniversary decorations span throughout the resort, including a 50-foot Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture on the esplanade, themed merchandise and dining options, and special projection shows at Carthay Circle. The celebration concludes before transitioning to Halloween festivities in late August.
New Ticket Options and Annual Pass Changes
California residents can currently purchase three-day Park Hopper tickets for $249, representing a 50% discount, valid through May 21. A summer promotion offers children’s one-day Park Hopper tickets for just $50, available for use between May 22 and September 7.
Disney is also introducing the new Explore Key annual pass, replacing the current Enchant Key. Priced at $999 with a $99 down payment and 0% financing, this pass will be available to all California residents and includes previously blocked summer weekday access.
Villains Take Center Stage at Magic Kingdom
Construction continues on Disney’s first dedicated villains-themed area at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Drawing architectural inspiration from Paris’s Art Nouveau and Barcelona’s Modernisme styles, particularly Antoni GaudÃ’s distinctive buildings, the land will feature twisted, otherworldly structures that appear “cursed” by magic.
Located beyond Big Thunder Mountain, Villains Land will include two major attractions, dining, and shopping experiences. The area will celebrate classic Disney antagonists from animated films, though no opening date has been announced.
Tropical Americas Replaces Dinosaur Era
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming its former DinoLand USA into Tropical Americas Land, with construction well underway. The Dinosaur attraction closed February 1, 2026, and will be reimagined as an Indiana Jones adventure through a Maya temple.
The new land will feature Pueblo Esperanza, a South American village setting with an Encanto-themed attraction exploring Antonio’s magical rainforest room. Additional offerings include a large quick-service restaurant, decorative fountain, and carousel. The complete transformation is scheduled for 2027.
Cars Racing Into Magic Kingdom
The former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area is being converted into Piston Peak, a Cars-themed land inspired by Pixar’s popular franchise. Set within an expanded Frontierland, the area will feature Rocky Mountain-inspired landscapes with towering trees, snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, and geysers.
Two new attractions are planned, including an off-road rally race featuring specially designed vehicles with unique personalities and racing numbers. Each car will navigate rocky terrain, mountain ascents, and geyser fields in an experience unlike anything Lightning McQueen and Mater have encountered before. Opening is expected between 2027 and 2028.
Pandora Comes to California
Disneyland’s major expansion project will introduce an Avatar-themed land based on “The Way of Water” and the upcoming “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” The centerpiece will be a dark boat ride similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, taking guests across Pandora’s vast oceans.
This expansion follows the success of Pandora at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Construction will also include a new entrance experience, parking structure, and pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard, with work beginning this fall.
Pixar Characters Get New Attractions
A Coco-themed dark ride is under construction at California Adventure, featuring audio-animatronic characters and music from the beloved Pixar film. Located near Pixar Pier and Paradise Gardens, the attraction will take guests through the Land of the Dead alongside Miguel.
Meanwhile, Disney World’s Hollywood Studios is replacing the Muppets area with Monstropolis, featuring Disney’s first suspended roller coaster inside the Monsters, Inc. laugh factory. The Muppets will relocate to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, with the Muppets-themed version opening this summer after the Aerosmith version closes March 1.
Avengers Campus Doubles in Size
California Adventure’s Avengers Campus is expanding with two new Marvel attractions. Avengers Infinity Defense will pit guests against King Thanos in a multiverse battle alongside Black Panther, Ant-Man, and Hulk. Stark Flight Lab will feature guests testing Tony Stark’s technology in gyro-kinetic pods manipulated by giant robotic arms.
Construction began in 2025, though opening dates remain unannounced.
Cruise Line Fleet Expansion
Disney continues expanding its cruise operations with the Disney Adventure launching in 2026, followed by three additional unnamed vessels scheduled between 2027 and 2031. This follows recent additions including the Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024), and Disney Destiny (2025).
Additional Park Updates
Several smaller but notable changes are also coming to Disney parks. Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is receiving a fresh coat of paint in its original colors, while various attractions are getting technological upgrades and new scenes. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will add Mandalorian and Grogu missions to the Millennium Falcon ride on May 22, 2026, coinciding with the theatrical release.
Disney World’s water parks are reopening after seasonal closures, with Blizzard Beach having reopened February 15 and Typhoon Lagoon scheduled for May 12. For couples seeking magical moments, new wedding venues are being added at Disneyland, including an early morning option at the Haunted Mansion courtyard.
