Father-Son Team Launches Nyne to Bridge AI Agent Understanding Gap with $5.3M Funding
As artificial intelligence systems prepare to handle autonomous decision-making for purchases and appointments, a critical limitation has emerged: these digital assistants lack comprehensive understanding of the humans they serve.
Michael Fanous, who studied computer science at UC Berkeley and previously worked as a machine learning engineer at CareRev, identified this fundamental challenge. He observed that current AI systems cannot effectively connect disparate pieces of information about individuals across different platforms and databases.
The problem lies in AI’s inability to recognize that a person’s professional presence on LinkedIn, their social media activity on Instagram, and their public records all represent the same individual, according to Fanous.
Building the Solution
To address this gap, Michael partnered with his father Emad Fanous, an experienced chief technology officer, to create Nyne. Their startup aims to serve as an intelligence platform that enables AI agents to develop comprehensive understanding of users by analyzing their complete digital presence.
The company recently secured $5.3 million in seed investment, with Wischoff Ventures and South Park Commons leading the round. Notable angel investors participated in the funding, including Gil Elbaz, who co-founded Applied Semantics and played a key role in developing Google AdSense.
Competing with Tech Giants
While traditional machine learning approaches have proven successful for companies like Google in targeted advertising, Michael Fanous argues that the situation differs for external AI agents. Google maintains exclusive access to user search data and cross-platform behavior patterns, creating an insurmountable advantage that the company will never share with third-party systems.
Nichole Wischoff, who founded Wischoff Ventures and supported the investment, described the challenge as surprisingly complex for organizations outside major tech platforms.
Technical Approach
Nyne’s methodology involves deploying extensive networks of automated systems across the internet to examine publicly available digital traces. The company then applies advanced machine learning algorithms to process and analyze this collected information.
The platform examines user activity across major social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and X, while also incorporating data from specialized applications such as SoundCloud and Strava to create comprehensive user profiles.
Market Applications
As businesses increasingly implement AI agents for customer interaction, Nyne positions itself as the essential service provider for enhancing these systems’ understanding of both current and prospective customers.
According to Michael Fanous, the platform can provide any relevant information about individuals that would enable AI systems to make appropriate decisions. By establishing these connections, companies can gain deep insights into customer interests, preferences, and thought processes regarding specific topics.
Wischoff emphasized the substantial market opportunity, noting that any organization deploying AI agents for customer outreach would benefit from this enhanced data intelligence. She highlighted the commercial value of early identification of customer needs and preferences.
Family Business Dynamics
Regarding their unique father-son partnership, the CEO expressed confidence in their collaborative approach. Michael Fanous noted that family relationships provide stability that traditional co-founder arrangements might lack, ensuring commitment even during challenging periods and demanding work schedules.
